Under the patronage of His Excellency, Dr. Faleh Bin Rajaa Allah Al-Solamy, Rector of King Khalid University, the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education organized a workshop on activating and spreading the culture of volunteering. The activity took place yesterday morning in the Central Stands of the University City in Abha.

The workshop was attended by the Director of the Coordination Council of the Aseer Charity Organization, Mr. Ali Hassan, and the Deputy of the Technical College in Abha, Mr. Maalawi Asiri. The Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education at the University, Dr. Mubarak Hamdan, moderated the workshop. During the workshop, participants presented shows on volunteering and its impact on the society.

The workshop aimed mainly at introducing the participants to the concept of voluntary work, its importance, its fields, and mechanisms. Participants in the workshop participated in the discussion, dialogue, and brainstorming.

The workshop was also attended by the Friends of the Coordination Council in the Aseer Region, a number of employees of the charitable societies, the Civil Defense Department in Abha and Khamis Mushait, the Office of Social Affairs, the Chamber of Commerce, in addition to a group of University students and volunteers.

At the end of the workshop, and in the name of the University, the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education honored the participants with certificates of appreciation for the considerable efforts put forth to ensure the success of the workshop.

King Khalid University, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Penal Institutions in the Asir Region, concluded the activities of the summer club program held in the Abha General Prison during the summer of 1438H. One of the program aims is to provide guidance and awareness to all segments of society.

A number of activities were held inside Abha General Prison during the summer club program such as lectures, training courses, and several religious and educational lectures. The most prominent included a presentation on 'The Imminent Danger Surrounding Drugs,' presented by Dr. Musfir Al Wadai and a lecture on 'Quran and the Virtues of Morality' given by Dr. Fadel Al Shehri. Another lecture was provided by Dr. Abod Dera'a on 'Protecting the Brain in Sharia.' Moreover, Dr. Audh Al Shehri gave a lecture on 'The Prophet's Manners with his Family.'

On the awareness side, Dr. Abdullah Al Sabani gave a talk on 'Your Health after Forty.' Another religious lecture was given on 'Good Hearts' conducted by Saeed Al Sarhani. Lastly, a lecture titled 'The Believe in the Divine Decree,' was provided by Dr. Mohammed Al Rajhi. 

In an effort to provide unique training opportunities, three courses were held that helped the inmates from an educational level. One of them was on 'The Art of Communication' presented by Dr. Ali Al Marzoqi. Another was presented by Dr. Khudran Al Suhaimi entitled 'The God and Prophet Joseph.' Furthermore, Dr. Abdullah Al Kasi gave the third course, and it was about 'Self-Development Techniques.'    

The General Directorate of Penal Institutions in the Asir Region expressed their sincere gratitude to King Khalid University for their efforts in providing lectures and training courses during the program.

It is worth mentioning that, the number of those who benefited from the summer club program in Abha General Prison has exceeded 790 inmates and 27 employees.

His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Dr. Faleh bin Raja Allah Al-Solamy, visited yesterday, Tuesday, July 18, 2017, the Abha Dawah Tent for Tourists. During his visit, Rector Al-Solamy toured the University exhibition, which is also playing a prominent role in the program.

The Executive Director of the Tent, Sheikh Ali Al-Qarafi, received Rector Al-Solamy. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Al-Solamy listened to a detailed explanation about the nature University's participation, presented by the Supervisor of the Pavilion, Dr. Misfer Al-Wad’i.

The involvement of KKU in the exhibition included a presentation of the activities by the Intellectual Awareness Unit covering its most prominent publications and media participations. Furthermore, the University offered free workshops and calligraphy sessions, as well as an exhibition of medical education and mobile clinics to provide consultation and initial services for visitors to the tent.

Al-Solamy reviewed all operations of the program and thanked the participants for their efforts in directing the pavilion in a distinctive way that reflects the University's achievements in various fields. He stressed that the University would spare no effort in doing everything possible to ensure success.

It is worth mentioning that the Intellectual Awareness Unit, the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education, the Pharmacy School, and the Dentistry School supervised the University’s participation in the program. This highly beneficial event is integral to the continuous community partnership between the University, governmental, and private institutions.

The Faculty of Languages and Translation of King Khalid University conducted three training courses, within the activities of the university's fourth health, educational, and awareness program which is being held in the Thrban Center in the province of Majardh. The training courses targeted the teachers of English who serve in the different stages of education in the province and its affiliating centers.

The first course handled the issue of the use of knowledge background in teaching the English language, and it was presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Dr. Abdullah Al Melhi. During the course, Dr. Al Melhi explained that the course focused on how to teach reading in English as a second language, using books of the general education. At the end of the course, Dr. Al Melhi answered the attendees' questions and inquiries.

For his part, a member of the teaching staff at the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Dr. Eyhab Badr Eddin, presented another training course entitled, "The Negative and the Positive Impact of the Native Language (Arabic) to Learn and Use the English language." Moreover, both Dr. Farouk Haji and Mr. Matthew Paul from the faculty presented a training course, which handled the use of Social networks and modern technology when teaching of English Language. The Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education of King Khalid University (KKU) has carried out a number of educational programs and courses, and applied diplomas for the year 1435/1436 AH. The number of beneficiaries has reached 7,491 employees, from the university and from outside it. Also the number of participants in the educational diplomas reached 1,162 from both sexes, and the number of participants in the Applied diplomas in Deanship headquarters in Abha, Bisha, Majardh, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Belkarn, and Sarat Obeida reached 441, with 38 male students and 403 female students.

Based on the University's role in serving the community, 45 training course were conducted. The courses targeted a number of Building Security employees, the Directors of governmental departments in Asir, the employees of Asir passport, and others. The number of participants has reached the 5,888. The Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education also participated in the awareness, educational and health forums that were held in Tehama Asir, in addition to employment and the Saudi rehabilitation forums. Moreover, the Deanship participated in the Gulf Traffic Week, under the slogan "Your decision determines your destiny", the Civil Defense Week, and the Unified Gulf week to promote oral health to highlight its awareness and social role.

Members of the Abha special needs Club accepted the invitation of the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education Dr. Mubarak Said Hamdan, who invited them to visit the Deanship. The purpose of the visit was to check the needs of this precious category of citizens.

The members who attended the meeting were Mr. Ali Awda Ibouhawi, Mr. Saeed Bin Nasser Al Shahrani, Mr. Saud Mathami and Mr. Jalal Saeed Al Shahrani.

Dr. Mubarak Saeed used the occasion to express his happiness in receiving the members of the club, stressing the desire of the university, represented by the faculty of Community Service, to provide services and support for people with special needs and to take advantage of their proposals, in addition to providing what could be made of programs, courses and others.

The Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education at King Khalid University (KKU) Dr. Mubark Saeed Hamdan discussed the ways of cooperation and partnership with the manager of training section in the General Directorate of Passports, major Abdurrahman Shaya Al Qahtani. The discussion includes providing a number of developmental and educational training courses in the area of ( Computer, English Language, and Management of Human Resources) for the directorate employees in order to improve their working skills.

The Dean explained that "this meeting is a part of the cooperation between the University and the Passport Department in many areas that benefit the community in general. The aim of the training courses is to develop the skills of Directorate staff in various fields, which will reflect positively on the services they provide to the public".

Furthermore, Dr. Hamdan noted that signing such partnerships with various governmental and private entities was one the University's social and cultural responsibilities, pointing to the University's concern to perform its role in serving the community, as part of its mission toward the society.

In turn, the manager of training section in General Directorate of Passports in Asir stressed on advantages of this cooperation which will reflect positively on the services provided by the staff of the Passports Department to the citizens and residents. Moreover, he valued the important role of the Community Service and Continuing Education Deanship of KKU in promoting effective partnerships with the various governmental and private entities to serve the community, stating further that, "this partnership comes within the guidance of the director of Asir Passports department, brigadier general Saad Rehil Al Sweidi. Consequently, the cooperation will benefit the department employees by improving their practical level, and will equip them with the necessary skills that will help them to do their jobs properly.

The Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education Dr. Mubarak bin Said Hamdan has represented King Khalid University in the 32nd meeting of Community Service and Continuing Education Deans at the level of the Saudi Universities. The meeting which was hosted by Hail University, started on 8th and ended on 9th of Rabi Awal 1436 AH.

The participation was within the joint cooperation between Saudi universities, aimed at discussing training developments, as well as all what may be related to Community Service. The meeting also focused on the role of the universities in that area, and its other aims include exchange of experiences among different deanships of Community Service and Continuing Education in the different universities.
