His Excellency the Rector of King Khalid University (KKU), Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Dawood, has approved operating the clinics of Dentistry Faculty in its two sections (male and female). The clinics will offer their services to both citizens and residents during the summer. Operating such clinics proves the belief of the University in the role of the Dentistry Faculty in providing distinguished therapeutic services for all the segments of society.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shahrani, has said that the college intended to run clinics during the summer vacation for the year 1436 / 1437 AH, in order to provide medical services throughout the year, but not limited to periods of study. He said, "We aim to activate and boost tourism in the southern region, and to ensure the continuity of the provision of service to the reviewers of the clinical education process, as male and female interns operate internship during this period."

Dr. Al-Shahrani clarified that the clinics would be run in two shifts, and members of the teaching staff of the following disciplines would be assigned to supervise the clinics during that period (oral surgery - conservative treatment - combinations - children's teeth Medicine)

Dr. Al-Shahrani further noted that the college had had previous experience in the operation of clinics over the past years.

In a way to activate partnership between Dentistry School of King Khalid University and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Asir branch, Mr. Abdul Hakim Gibran, the Director of the branch in company of a delegation, paid a visit to the School. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the services which are going to be provided to the employees of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center, the House of Social Welfare, Observation Management, and Girls' Clinic.

On this remarkable occasion, the Dean of Dentistry School, Dr. Ibrahim bin Suleiman Al Shahrani, explained that aspects of health partnership were in favor of the patient and alleviation of pain. Dr. Suleiman Al Shahrani added, "Believing in its vital role, Dentistry School has harnessed all possibilities in order to be a strong contributor in securing all the branches the Ministry of Social Affairs may need."

The visit also included a tour to the sections of the Dentistry School. Guests on the visit checked the technical and medical sections and they were briefed on what the School offers to the patients. They want to transfer the experiment to the Comprehensive Rehabilitation and social welfare centers.

At the end of the visit, the two parts came out with a number of recommendations including that, the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center should provide the School of Dentistry with complete files that contain the names of patients and their health status before starting treatment procedures. Dentistry School has to perform, whenever possible, necessary maintenance to dental units at the comprehensive rehabilitation clinic. Moreover, the School should pay a weekly therapeutic visit every Tuesday to the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center. The School also should try to integrate with the Social Affairs office to provide tools and dental materials. The School is also committed to send an evaluation team to the dental clinic of Social Welfare House in order to determine the status of the clinic and its suitability to serve as a prelude to finding a mechanism for medical cooperation to help guests in the two sections, men and women. Also, the School has to pay evaluation visit to the dental clinic in Observation Clinic in order to determine the status of the clinic and its suitability to work in preparation for the submission of dental medical services to its patients.

Under the patronage of the Governor of Asir Region, His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal Bin Khalid bin Abdul Aziz, King Khalid University, (KKU) represented by the Dentistry School, is organizing the 1st International Dental Conference. The Conference comes under the tittle "the New Era of Dentistry within its International Dimension", and it will take place in Abha Palace Hotel on Thursday, November 12, 2015, AD.

The President of King Khalid University, Prof. Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al dawood has thanked the sponsor of the conference for his generous care and unwavering support to the activities of University; the activities that enable it to perform its educational and social missions. President Al dawood said, "His Highness, Prince Faisal's sponsorship of the event is a reflection to his majesty's interest in science" The President further clarified that the University of King Khalid plays a great role in providing its student with modern knowledge. He said, "Increasingly, the University depends on the scientific partnership it entered with various international and local entities in order to maximize the scientific output of King Khalid University stakeholders."

For his part, the University Vice - President for Medical Specialties who is also the Head of the Conference Organization Committee, Prof. Khalid Al Jelban, confirmed that the conference "is expected to introduce many dentists of the university and the region". He added, "The conference is a good chance for the university to elaborate its potentials in the scientific arena." Prof.  Al Jelban clarified that Conference would also participate in energizing conference tourism, which aims at introducing the region locally and internationally. Regarding the organizational side, Prof. Al Jelban stated that there were auditoriums for men and for women that were prepared for lectures and for discussing researches, in addition to holding an exhibition that would provide presentations by a number of international entities that are specialized in dental tools. In addition, the conference would include medical education exhibitions in dentistry. The Head of the Organizational Committee praised the large turnout of the specialized entities to the conference from within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and from outside of it. In that case, the university seeks to provide enough areas to receive all applied entities. Prof. Al jelban pointed out to the workshops that were going to accompany the conference which would be presented by guests from the United States of America (USA), the United Arab Emirate (UAE) , and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The workshops will  take place in the clinics of the Dentistry School in the University City in Abha. The aim of conducting such workshops is to enable dentists to achieve the highest benefit, as these workshops will offer the latest developments in the field of dentistry. In addition, the workshops are a precious opportunity to the postgraduate students.

On his turn, the dean of Dentistry School, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shahrani, who is heading the Scientific Committee of the Conference, emphasized that the conference was the first of its kind in the Southern region, saying "I expect the conference will witness a large turnout from within the Kingdom and outside of it." The Dean further stated that 25 invitations were sent to participants from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, and the United Arab Emirate. In addition, throughout the days of the conference, a program for scientific lectures is going to be arranged alongside the conference, as well as two seminars in medical education and dental protective medicine. Moreover, 85 scientific posters are going to be displayed, and an exhibition, offering the latest dental technology, is also arranged. The Dean stated, "Before the start of the conference, 5 specialized workshops are going to be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, AD."

King Khalid University (KKU) has received via its portal, more than 700 applications for participation in the first international Dental Conference, which is being organized by the University, represented by the Dentistry School. The conference, which will be launched next Thursday 12/11/2015 AD, and which will last for two days, comes under the title "New era of dentistry in its international dimension".  

In turn, the Dean of Dentistry, who is also the Head of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Dr. Ibrahim Alshahrani stated thus, "As at this day, 600 applications for participation in the conference have been received, in addition to 200 applications to attend workshops." He pointed out that the conference " is expected to witness a high attendance, regarding to the necessity of such conferences to dentists". He added, "University welcomes anyone who would like to participate in the conference and its activities. Registration is available till the next Wednesday 11/11/201 AD via the conference website.

King Khalid University (KKU), represented by the College of Dentistry, continues its preparations for the organization of a world event representing the First International Dental Conference. The event is going to take place in Abha Palace Hotel from 30/1 to 02/02/1437 AH, corresponding to 12 - 14 / 11 / 2015 AD. The Conference is adopting the title "The new era of dentistry in its global dimension"

On the occasion, the Vice - President of Medical Specialties and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee Prof. Khalid Al jelban stressed that the establishment of such a global conference would add a lot to the dentists at the university and all over the region, believing that they would be able to take advantage of the experiences of dentists who are participating in the conference and who have international experience in the field. In addition, the Conference provides a full opportunity for the University to highlight its available potential, and to demonstrate its strong presence on the scientific arena.

Al jelban confirmed that the conference would provide its services to the region by supporting the revitalization of conference tourism, which aims at introducing the province regionally and globally. The purpose is to demonstrate the potential of the region, in line with the approach of the university.

The King Khalid University establishes such international conferences, which affects positively, first, the Kingdom, and then the region, to provide many research partnerships, innovations in addition to holding advanced global partnerships. On the organizational side of the conference, Prof. Al Jelban pointed out that "there are a number of halls prepared for the lectures and research discussions, for men and women. Furthermore, it is prepared to have an exhibition that will accompany the Conference.  The exhibition aim is to display a number of presentations provided by a number of international companies that are specialized in the areas of processing of medical Dental tools. Also, there are going to be exhibitions for medical education in the field of teeth". Prof. Al jelban further stated that "a lot of companies that are specialized in dentistry are showing their interests in participating in the exhibition, within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and from outside of it". The Professor added that "the university tries to provide sufficient space to receive all companies that applied. He further announced conducting a number of workshops that are going to be provided by a number of guest professors from the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", adding that "the Workshops will take place in the clinics of the Dentistry School in the University City in Abha, saying further that "the university seeks, from these workshops, benefits for dentists and specialists, as they are specialized workshops on the latest developments in dentistry". For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and the president of the Scientific Committee of the conference, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shahrani has confirmed that the conference "is the first of its kind that deals with dentistry in the southern region". He added, "The Conference is expected to witness a large turnout of a number of specialists from inside and outside the Kingdom. They will present their working papers and researches at the accompanying meetings and workshops". The Dean further stated that "there will be, 26 participants from Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates, in addition to scientific lectures program throughout the days of the conference. Also, the conference will witness conducting two seminars specialized in medical education and Preventive Dentistry, while 85 scientific posters will be presented with a special exhibition which will display everything that is modern in dentistry."  Dr. Al-Shahrani added that 5 workshops for dentists would be conducted the day before the start of the conference - 29/1/1437 AH - at the main headquarters of the King Khalid University (Aljrejer). 3 workshops would be from 8 to 12 am, in addition to another 2 workshops from 1 to 5 pm.

The Conference, which is considered the first of its kind to take care of Dentistry in the Southern region, is expected to witness a large turnout from the specialists from inside the Kingdom and from outside as well. The participants are expected to present worksheets and researches during the session of the conference and its accompanying workshops. 9 spokesmen from outside the Kingdom are invited, in addition to 16 spokesmen from within the Kingdom. Also, the conference will witness 4 specialized workshop, and 2 seminars specialized in the Medical Education and Preventive Dentistry. Moreover, the conference will be accompanied by a scientific exhibition which will present scientific posters.

Seizing the opportunity, Prof. Abdulrahman Bin Hamid Al dawood, the President of King Khalid University, thanked His Highness the Governor of Asir Region, His Royal highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz, for his generous sponsorship and unwavering support to the University in all its scientific activities, so that the University will be capable of performing its scientific and social tasks. For his part, the University Vice - President for Health Specialties and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Conference, Prof. Khalid Bin Saad Al Jelban emphasized that "the Dentistry School with its distinguished activities reflects the bright face of the University". He also added, "Supporting the efforts exerted by the scientific and professional bodies which emanate from the University is strengthening the roles and message of the University." Prof. Al Jelban also clarified that the participation of the Dentistry School was increasing and developing within the scientific and educational renaissance witnessed by the University.

On the occasion, the Dean of the Dentistry School and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shahrani confirmed that the Conference would look at all developments in the Dentistry, and also it would provide scientific opportunities to the University stakeholders and those who are concerned with Dentistry in the Kingdom. "The purpose is to keep updated and informed of the new development in the areas of scientific research and the technology that help teeth and mouth health", he said.  The Dean also pointed at the diversity of the participation, especially from foreign countries which have their own experience in the field of dentistry.  Dr. Al-Shahrani said, "These practical benefits are the motive that push the Dentistry School to invite those who have professional and scientific experiences, so that the students of the Dentistry School could take advantage in general."

The Faculty of Dentistry of King Khalid University (KKU) has completed treating 2381 cases, in its different dental specializations. The Faculty, during its second summer, tried to achieve the goal of the university regarding community services. In addition, the Faculty has sought to enhance the University's role, of serving holiday makers during the summer.

The dental clinics worked on  full-time basis, starting from 8 am to 5 pm, throughout the summer, and this continued from the end of the second semester until the beginning of the new academic year. Furthermore, the clinics worked during the holy month of Ramadan on two shifts; morning shift which started from 10 am to 12: 30 pm, as well as evening shift which was from 10 pm to 12:30 after midnight. The purpose was to treat the largest possible number of cases.

The clinics were run by a number of interns from various specializations, under the supervision of a group of faculty members, as well as a number of nurses and X-ray technicians, in addition to receptionists. Moreover, the laboratory of production and fixed and moving fixtures were operated at full capacity, in order to cover all specializations needed by patients.

It is noteworthy that the Faculty, through its previous round, worked on increasing the number of the Faculty members who were overseeing the interns in all various specializations. In addition, the University has increased the number of nurses, X-ray technicians, receptionists - males and females. The purpose was to attend to the largest possible number of patients without delay. This development has contributed to increase the number of cases that have been treated this year, compared to the last year; nearly 90%. The University is still aspiring to achieve greater successes in the coming years.

His Excellency King Khalid University Rector Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Dawood has today in the morning, inaugurated the Dental Technology Department of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at the university branch in Khamis Mushayt (Lasan). The department includes 5 private laboratories for partial dentures, a lab for full dentures, as well as crowns, bridges, orthodontic, and a special laboratory for Albrooslin (coloring structures).

On the occasion, the students of the Faculty gave a detailed explanation to the Rector of the university, inside the laboratories, about the mechanism of work, and how to prepare the structures and the stages these structures go through before approval by the supervising teaching staff members.

For his part, President Al-Dawood thanked the students and the faculty members for what they are doing, stressing the university's readiness to provide full support to the Faculty for the sake of the betterment of the educational process. The costs of establishing and equipping of dental technology laboratories is estimated to more than 7 million Saudi Riyals. The project is implemented on an area exceeding 500 square meters, and has a number of 5 laboratories equipped with the latest medical devices. Also, the Laboratories can accommodate 130 students, including 15 intern students.
