31K Benefit From Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education 2020 Summer Programs
The Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education successfully offered several summer 2020 learning opportunities such as "Mobaderoon" and the "Goodwill Initiative". These initiatives were made available to the public writ large during the COVID-19 pandemic as part of King Khalid University's commitment to help us stay connected and move forward by building skill sets participants can use to form lasting connections.
Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Omar bin Alwan Aqeel, explained that 14,074 participants took part in a 22-hour online training package. The most important courses, he noted, were "Skills of Dealing with Crises and Disasters", "Personal and Behavioral Skills of a Security Guard", and "Future Skills of the Fourth Industrial Revolution". He praised the efforts of those who participated in implementing these initiatives.
In collaboration with the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion, the program "Your Ramadan Filled with Quran" was delivered to over 19 attendees. It included memorizing the Qur'an, sessions to correct recitation, and a lecture on reflecting. Additionally, competitions on the best recitation for kids, "Quranic Whispers", a cultural competition, and Qira'at (recitations or readings) attracted 1,965 participants.
As a part of the Goodwill Initiative in collaboration with the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Khamis Mushait, eight-hour training programs tailored to students were offered, attracting 2,865. The courses included one on protecting our mental health in times of COVID-19, COVID-19 prevention while picnicking, and the role of occupational health and safety after the pandemic.
Several initiatives and programs as a part of the Goodwill Initiative were launched at numerous campuses around the Asir. Please see below.
Tehama Campus
Headlining the Tehama Campus initiative, which benefitted 11,500, was the health caravan in the parks, presenting gifts and educational publications in shopping centers, and a fine arts competition.
The College of Science and Arts at Dhahran Al-Janoub
The Deanship also collaborated with the College of Science and Arts at Dhahran Al-Janoub to implement programs and initiatives, benefitting 740. They included one on kids and technology and one on being beautiful without a filter. Several competitions were also run on the oldest historical document, the best form of poetry, the best photo, the best mural, and the best intellectual discussion.
The College of Science and Arts at Sarat Abidah
In Sarat Abidah, the Deanship collaborated with the College of Science and Arts to hold health and safety awareness initiatives to nearly 400 participants, namely the initiative to promote the Goodwill Initiative's slogan — "Picnic Carefully". Also included was an initiative for home-based businesses, a bike race, a horse race, a show, and a medical awareness meeting at Sarat Abidah Hospital.
