Department of Media and Communication Holds COVID-19 Media Strategy Workshop

The Media and Communication Department at the College of Humanities held an online workshop on Wednesday discussing media strategies on dealing with the latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) news. The three-hour 50 participant workshop included the department's professors, scholarship students, and graduate students.

 

The Head of the Media and Communication Department and Consultant, Dr. Ali Al-Qarni, explained that the workshop discussed the different strategies being utilized around the world to report on COVID-19, noting that there are three common roles that are prevalent: denial, exaggeration or balance. The discussion included the media’s role in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and the MENA region.

 

Dr. Al-Qarni added that the workshop also focused on the role of the Saudi media. He reviewed and evaluated the Kingdom's media work in accord with professional principles, which included accurate data and information.
