6 Projects to Watch in 2020
King Khalid University Vice Rector, His Excellency Prof. Muhammad Ali Al-Hasoon, attended the iT Administration's closing ceremony of IObootamp 2.0. The purpose of the bootcamp was to provide students a platform to showcase their tech prowess and assist them in achieving their aspirations in cooperation with the Badir Technology Incubators and Accelerators Program in Abha. Vice Rector Al-Hasoon related that he was pleased with the nascent programming talents developed by an expert team from the iT Administration.
During the ceremony, CIO, Dr. Salem Alelyani, thanked the trainers representing King Khalid University and the Badir Abha Incubator for providing a set of diversified training sessions to foster and develop ideas into promising technical enterprises. CIO Alelyani praised the creativity of the program, noting that the outstanding efforts exerted by the trainers focused on programming, entrepreneurship, and design thinking.
Vice Rector Al-Hasoon: We're really proud of the outcomes of this camp, particularly with the work that we're doing in cooperation with the Badir Technology Incubators and Accelerators Program, and providing innovative coding education in the region.
As part of the IObootamp 2.0's focus on programming, entrepreneurship and design thinking, the stage was set for 6 finalists to deliver presentations on their projects. Of noteworthy mention, the projects selected for display illustrated that they will add to the thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem being built in the region.
Here are the top emerging projects to watch in 2020:
Orchid is a platform for makeup artists and hairstylists. Orchid's networking capabilities provide a central contact system for business owners to exchange services, ideas, and business development opportunities.
Tech Skills is an education platform with a regional focus that focuses on e-learning to promote the acquisition of in-demand skills. Its main purpose is centered on connecting learners and educators vis-à-vis small private online courses (SPOCs) for those who prefer one-on-one private lessons.
Badra e-Shop is an e-commerce site with a local focus. Badra e-Shop enables businesses and craftsmen to be more efficient, scale, and sell bespoke products and artwork.
Sahim is a volunteer management platform. Sahim technology matches volunteers to opportunities that match their skill set.
EVA Creative is a platform that brings coffee and art connoisseurs together to share ideas and expertise. EVA Creative matches interests and preferences to public activities and events.
HAN is an e-commerce platform with a family focus. HAN connects family businesses with customers across industries.
At the close of the ceremony, Vice CIO, Dr. Mohammed Al-Saqr, provided closing remarks on the program. Vice CIO Al-Saqr noted that King Khalid University is dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship to empower students and fuel the growth of the region's SME (small and medium enterprises) sector.
