Routledge Encyclopedia of Language Teaching and Learning Now Published in Arabic
In a recent ceremony, King Khalid University Rector, His Excellency Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, received the translated copy of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Language Teaching and Learning from the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Arts in Tanumah and Professor of Linguistics at the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Faqih. Dean Al-Faqih's translation of the encyclopedia required a significant investment of his time and expertise in translation.
His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy stressed the importance of translation projects to encourage the spread of knowledge throughout the world. He spoke about the ways in which vocabulary and phrases enrich understanding of various subject matters. His Excellency then thanked Dean Al-Faqih for his hard work and persistence in completing the project. He noted that the translated book will be a valuable addition to libraries and institutions throughout the Arabic speaking world. The manuscript will greatly benefit researchers for generations to come.
Also present at the ceremony were Vice Rector of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Saad Al-Amri, Vice Rector of Academic Affairs, Dr. Saad Bin Du'ajim, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, and the Dean of Library Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Naser. They all congratulated Dean Al-Faqih for his accomplishment, noting that the effort will help propel forward further research in many areas of study.
Dean Al-Faqih said that the encyclopedia included many definitions and articles on language, history, and terminology. Also included are: Teaching methods, teaching materials, evaluation and testing rubrics, language psychology, anthropology, social linguistics, communicative teaching issues, teacher education, curriculum design, bilingualism, language laboratories, studies in linguistic and cultural institutions, and professional associations.
The encyclopedia is a Routledge House publication. Routledge House is the U.K. based repository for 1,800 scientific journals and more than 5,000 books. King Saud University also supported the translation project and the printing of the encyclopedia for institutional use in the Kingdom.
