Specialized departments at universities are expected to address contemporary issues, and the media foundations have to protect generations from the misleading ideas and destructive orientations. It is time for those specialized departments to prepare experts who are capable of carrying on this responsibility. The phenomenon of terrorism has become a global phenomenon, and the world has become like a small village - thanks to the evolution of the media, the reason terrorists have found themselves able to wander freely and easily. Believing in their responsibilities toward community, universities should contribute in the study this phenomenon”

His Excellency - the Rector - further stressed that all the countries of the world had suffered from the phenomenon of terrorism, including our Kingdom - he Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. But thanks to God, then to our wise leadership, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, may God protect him, and the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness, Prince Mohamed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Prime Minister as well as Interior Minister, and the Deputy Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, who is the second Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Minister of defense, the Kingdom was able to defeat this phenomenon. Even the Kingdom has become a model for most of the world’s countries in confronting this phenomenon. The Kingdom would not have achieved its goals in fighting against terrorism without the people of the nation and the sacrifices of the loyal security men in various security and military sectors of the Kingdom.

Al Hassoun: "the university seeks to find optimal solutions to this frightening phenomenon"

For his part, the Vic - President for Academic and Educational Affairs, who is also the Head of the Organizing Committee of the conference, Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Hassoun, hsa stressed that the university was delighted to establish that international conference, which will discuss an important topic, and which is titled: Media and Terrorism: means and strategies,. Prof. Al-Sharif continued describing the phenomenon of terrorism saying that terrorism tarnished the image of Islam, its values, and ideals. Terrorism begins with the adoption of an intellectual idea which confiscates others and which quickly ends in violence, which not only has destructive effects on the individual but also on the community, states, and nations.

Prof. Al-Sharif added, “With the multiplicity of media and communication methods, the impact of media role is growing in targeting young people who need to strengthen moderation values, and to have a culture of tolerance that glorify the human being, and highlight the noble meanings for his existence, as well as raise the spirit of creativity, and building minds scientifically and cognitively in order to produce a critic sense able to recognize. So, they would not be a deaf tool driven by hidden forces; entangled in the closed orbit, and do not see except through it, to lead them unconsciously to bad goals.

The Supervisor - General of Media Centre and Afaaq newspaper, who is also the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the conference, Prof. Ali Shuweil Al Qarni, has said that the members of the Scientific Committee had worked as a group for over over a year in order to follow the scientific details of that international conference, starting with identifying objectives and themes, and ending with putting the agenda of the meetings which they realized on that day with the opening of that conference.Prof. Al Qarni added, “We received - on the whole - more than one thousand two hundred requests for participation, and we had to lessen them gradually and in stages to 80 researches and scientific papers. Today, more than a hundred personalities from inside and from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are participating in the conference. We are pleased that the foreign participants reached about thirty nationalities from Europe, America, Canada, Asia, Africa and the Arab world.

Prof. Al-Qarni continued that media and communications department of King Khalid University was newly-established. It was established 4 years ago. However, it was able to organize two international conferences, the first was the international conference for media and rumor, and the second is the current conference. "We couldn’t have achieved this accomplishment without God’s reconciliation, and then the support of the university administration, as well as organizing committees at the university, and the various concerned departments. I would like to thank all of them for the support and encouragement, led by His Excellency, the Rector Of King Khalid university, Prof. Faleh bin Rajaa Allah Al Solamy, who played a significant role in harnessing the University’s financial and spiritual potential for the sake of the conference," concluded Prof. Al Qarni.

He said, "This is a wonderful initiative, which a number of interested researchers and experts from 30 nationalities responded to.” Dr. Aslon also praised the timing of the conference, which came at a crucial stage, where the propaganda machine of the cunning terroristic organizations has mastered media and its various means to spread their ideologies, to legitimize their crimes, and to justify murder and intimidation. He added: "From this point, we hope that this important conference comes out, through its themes and objectives, with purposeful recommendations, and to take all the associated media aspects in relation to terrorism, since they have not received sufficient space of research and scrutiny, such as how to reduce the exploitation of media and communication opportunities offered by technology to implement the agenda of the terrorists, of attracting and recruiting, as well as how to immunize young people from the poisons of the destructive ideas, in addition to identifying the media's role to curb this phenomenon "

The Rector, His Excellency Al Solamy, further inaugurated two accompanying exhibits, namely: the exhibit of the Kingdom's efforts in confronting terrorism, and the exhibit of fine art and caricature.
